<p>Les <dfn>Colubridés</dfn>, nom scientifique <dfn>Colubridae</dfn>, sont une <a href="Famille_(biologie)" title="Famille (biologie)">famille</a> de <a href="Serpentes" title="Serpentes">serpents</a>, avec 249 genres<sup id="cite_ref-1" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-1"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>1<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> et près de 2 000 espèces<sup id="cite_ref-ReptileDatabase_2-0" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-ReptileDatabase-2"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>2<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> – soit près de 60&nbsp;% de toutes les espèces de serpents vivant aujourd'hui – constituent de loin la famille de serpents la plus riche en espèces. Elle a été créée et répertoriée par <a href="Nicolaus_Michael_Oppel" title="Nicolaus Michael Oppel">Nicolaus Michael Oppel</a> en 1811. <p>Le nom de cette famille, <i>Colubridae</i>, vient du <a href="Latin" title="Latin">latin</a> <i><span class="lang-la" lang="la">coluber, colubra</span></i>, désignant les <a href="Couleuvre" title="Couleuvre">couleuvres</a> (respectivement mâles et femelles) et du suffixe <i>-dae</i> désignant un rang de famille<sup id="cite_ref-LescureEtBarff_4-0" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-LescureEtBarff-4"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>4<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>.

<p>Les Colubridés constituent un groupe de serpents très diversifié. Ils sont principalement des serpents fins à longue queue, dont le corps est couvert d'<a href="%C3%89caille" title="Écaille">écailles</a> relativement grandes. La <a href="T%C3%AAte_(anatomie)" title="Tête (anatomie)">tête</a>, généralement séparée du <a href="Cou" title="Cou">cou</a>, peut être longue et étroite, mais aussi courte et émoussée. Ils présentent une grande variété de styles, de tailles, de couleurs et de motifs corporels. Ils peuvent également vivre dans des habitats variés, notamment aquatiques, terrestres, semi-arboricoles, arboricoles, désertiques, forestiers montagneux, semi-fouisseurs et saumâtres<sup id="cite_ref-Vitt,_Laurie_J_2014_5-0" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-Vitt,_Laurie_J_2014-5"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>5<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup><sup title="page(s)" class="reference" style="white-space:nowrap;">:622-623</sup>.
</p><p>Généralement timides et inoffensifs, les Colubridés ne sont en grande majorité pas <a href="Serpent_venimeux" title="Serpent venimeux">venimeux</a> et ne produisent pas de <a href="Venin" title="Venin">venin</a> médicalement significatif pour les <a href="Mammif%C3%A8res" class="mw-redirect" title="Mammifères">mammifères</a>. Cependant, les morsures de certains d'entre eux peuvent rapidement dégénérer en situations d'urgence. Sauf chez quelques espèces fouisseuses, les <a href="Yeux" class="mw-redirect" title="Yeux">yeux</a> sont grands et les <a href="Pupille" title="Pupille">pupilles</a> <a href="Ronde" class="mw-disambig" title="Ronde">rondes</a> ou <a href="Ovale" title="Ovale">ovales</a>. La fente buccale s'étend bien en arrière des yeux. Les os de la mâchoire supérieure, particulièrement longs, des colubridés ne peuvent pas être positionnés perpendiculairement à l'os facial, contrairement à ceux des vipères.
</p><p>Le <a href="Poumon" title="Poumon">poumon</a> gauche est réduit ou absent, avec ou sans poumon trachéal, les trompes <a href="Oviducte" title="Oviducte">oviductes</a> sont bien développées, les <a href="Pr%C3%A9maxillaire" class="mw-redirect" title="Prémaxillaire">prémaxillaires</a> sont dépourvus de <a href="Dent" title="Dent">dents</a>, les <a href="Maxillaire" class="mw-redirect" title="Maxillaire">maxillaires</a> sont orientés longitudinalement avec des dents pleines ou rainurées, la <a href="Mandibule" title="Mandibule">mandibule</a> ne possède pas de coronoïde, le <a href="Os_dentaire" class="mw-redirect" title="Os dentaire">dentaire</a> est denté, une <a href="Art%C3%A8re_carotide" class="mw-redirect mw-disambig" title="Artère carotide">artère carotide</a> gauche uniquement, les artères intracostales issues de l'<a href="Aorte" title="Aorte">aorte</a> dorsale à intervalles de quelques segments du tronc, les récepteurs infrarouges crâniens situés dans des puits ou des échancrures superficielles sont absents, et des foramens optiques traversant généralement les sutures fronto-pariétale-parasphénoïdales<sup id="cite_ref-Vitt,_Laurie_J_2014_5-1" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-Vitt,_Laurie_J_2014-5"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>5<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>.
</p><p>Certains colubridés sont décrits comme <a href="Opisthoglyphe" title="Opisthoglyphe">opisthoglyphes</a>, ce qui signifie qu'ils possèdent des «&nbsp;crocs&nbsp;» raccourcis et rainurés situés à l'arrière de la mâchoire supérieure&nbsp;; les serpents <a href="Aglyphe" title="Aglyphe">aglyphes</a>, ou «&nbsp;vrais serpents&nbsp;», en revanche, n'en possèdent pas. Chez certaines espèces, comme la <a href="Couleuvre_%C3%A0_collier" title="Couleuvre à collier">couleuvre à collier</a>, la salive contient une toxine très faible qui peut paralyser les petites proies, mais qui sert probablement principalement d'agent prédigestif. Ces crocs rainurés ont tendance à être plus acérés sur les bords antérieur et postérieur<sup id="cite_ref-:2_11-0" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-:2-11"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>11<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>. Lorsqu'ils se nourrissent, les colubridés reculent leurs mâchoires pour créer un mouvement tranchant entre le bord postérieur et les tissus de la proie<sup id="cite_ref-:2_11-1" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-:2-11"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>11<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>. Pour injecter leur venin, les colubridae doivent mâcher leur proie<sup id="cite_ref-12" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-12"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>12<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>. Les Colubridés peuvent également être <a href="Prot%C3%A9roglyphe" title="Protéroglyphe">protéroglyphes</a> (crocs à l'avant de la mâchoire supérieure, suivis de petites dents solides)<sup id="cite_ref-Vitt,_Laurie_J_2014_5-2" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-Vitt,_Laurie_J_2014-5"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>5<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>.
</p><p>Les colubridés ont une grande variété de proies, notamment des petits mammifères, des <a href="Oiseau" title="Oiseau">oiseaux</a>, des <a href="L%C3%A9zard" title="Lézard">lézards</a>, des <a href="Amphibien" class="mw-redirect" title="Amphibien">amphibiens</a>, des <a href="Poisson" title="Poisson">poissons</a>, des <a href="Arthropode" class="mw-redirect" title="Arthropode">arthropodes</a> et des <a href="Mollusque" class="mw-redirect" title="Mollusque">mollusques</a>. Certains serpents sont des spécialistes de l'alimentation, se nourrissant exclusivement d'<a href="%C5%92uf_amniotique" title="Œuf amniotique">œufs</a> d'oiseaux.
</p><p>La plupart des Colubridés sont <a href="Ovipares" class="mw-redirect" title="Ovipares">ovipares</a> (reproduction par ponte d'un œuf qui éclosera plus tard), la taille de la couvée variant selon la taille et l'espèce du serpent. Cependant, certaines espèces, comme la <a href="Coronelle_lisse" class="mw-redirect" title="Coronelle lisse">coronelle lisse</a> originaire d'Europe centrale, sont <a href="Viviparit%C3%A9" title="Viviparité">vivipares</a> (reproduction par mise bas vivante). Cette famille était historiquement utilisée comme «&nbsp;<a href="Taxon_poubelle" class="mw-redirect" title="Taxon poubelle">taxon poubelle</a>&nbsp;»<sup id="cite_ref-Weinstein2011_14-0" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-Weinstein2011-14"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>14<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> pour les serpents qui ne correspondaient à aucun autre groupe<sup id="cite_ref-15" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-15"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>15<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>. Certaines de ces sous-familles sont aujourd'hui considérées comme des familles indépendantes, comme les serpents d'eau (<a href="Homalopsidae" title="Homalopsidae">Homalopsidae</a>) et les <a href="Pareidae" class="mw-redirect" title="Pareidae">Pareidae</a>, ou encore les <a href="Lamprophiidae" title="Lamprophiidae">Lamprophiidae</a>, les <a href="Psammophiidae" class="mw-redirect" title="Psammophiidae">Psammophiidae</a> et les Pseudoxyrhophiidae, qui sont plus proches des élapidés (<a href="Elapidae" title="Elapidae">Elapidae</a>) que des colubridés<sup id="cite_ref-l05_16-0" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-l05-16"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>16<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>. La sous-famille des <a href="Aparallactinae" title="Aparallactinae">Aparallactinae</a> était attribuée aux vipères terrestres (<a href="Atractaspididae" class="mw-redirect" title="Atractaspididae">Atractaspididae</a>).
</p><p>À l'origine, les vipères (<a href="Viperidae" title="Viperidae">Viperidae</a>), les colubridés, les élapidés et d'autres familles apparentées aux colubridés formaient la superfamille des <a href="Colubroidea" class="mw-redirect" title="Colubroidea">Colubroidea</a>&nbsp;; aujourd'hui, les colubridés constituent la seule famille de cette superfamille.
